The Business of Publishing
The audience is targeted at
decision-makers in non-profits, including all
community and social service agencies, government agencies, and
professional
and trade associations. The seminar will focus on helping non-profit
leaders make effective decisions on why and what to publish; selecting a
publication format that will be most beneficial to an organization;
preparing for the time and cost of the selected publication; and getting
started with the actual processes of selecting a publisher, producing and
editing the publication, and distribution to members and to the community.
The seminar is held in cooperation with the
International Project for Nonprofit Leadership and the Center for
Nonprofit
Resources. A limited number of scholarships may be available
through our
co-sponsoring organizations.

Vandamere Press and ABI Professional Publications
Mr. Brown has over 25 years of
experience the in publishing industry. He founded Vandamere Press, which
publishes history, biography, fiction, military and disability studies.
They have over 20 authors under contract. ABI Professional Publications
was founded in 1995 to publish books and journals for the professional
market in the areas of Facial Prosthetics, Dentistry, Ophthalmic
Prosthetics, Rehabilitation, and Medical Research. Since 1979 Mr. Brown
has operated, AB Associates, which provides book packaging and
consultant services, including warehousing and fulfillment, to
organizations that are interested in publishing their own materials. Prior
to 1979, he worked in a number of positions including: Publications
Manager for Booz Allen Applied Research, Publications Manager for Logicon,
and as a managing editor for the U.S. Navy on a variety of Navy, Joint
Service, and NATO publications. Mr. Brown has a B.A. in History from the
University of New Orleans.
